Frequently Asked Questions

Trying to find something in particular? Surf our site by entering a keyword or phrase.

Q. Do you provide free estimates?

A. Yes. We do, however, charge for inspections and quotes related to real estate transactions. An Estimator will come on-site to assess the scope of work and measure the area to estimate what materials are needed. They'll provide you with a free written estimate.

An estimate is when we can clearly identify what work needs to be done for your home. An inspection is required when the course of action isn't easily identified and further investigation is needed to find the underlying cause. Inspection costs vary, please contact us for an accurate invoice.

Q. What type of warranty do you provide on labor?

A. Our workmanship warranty depends on the type of job, which materials are required and the installation methods being used. We are pleased to offer a 15 year labor warranty on roofs when IKO products are used. Up to 7 years labor only on eaves and siding, and a 1 year labor only warranty on repairs.

Q. Is Classic Roofing & Siding Ltd. insured?

A. Yes. Classic is not only fully insured but we are Workers' Compensation Board compliant and in good standing with the NSWCB. We'll provide you with up-to-date proof of insurance and a letter from the WCB along with your quote.

Q. How long do asphalt shingles last?

A. That depends. On average they can last anywhere from 15-25 years. However, factors like extreme winds, moss, debris and sun exposure can affect the life span of your shingles.

Q. What forms of payment do you accept?

A. We accept several payment options, including: Visa, MasterCard, American Express, E-mail money transfer, Cheque or Cash. However, we do not accept Direct Debit.

Q. Am I responsible for anything before my project can start?

A. Yes. There are a few things that will need to be done in order for Classic to begin work. Only some of these will apply to your specific renovation needs. Read through the list below to see what applies to your project:

1. Permits are occasionally needed before we can get started. Such as a Building Permit, Decking Permit or Sidewalk Permit (if you live in an urban setting, like downtown Halifax). However, most of our work doesn't require a permit. For instance window installation, siding, roofing, repairs, etc. don't need a permit. To check if your project requires a permit please click Halifax Regional Municipality's Building and Development Permits

*The permit process has been delayed since Covid-19 and is taking more time than usual.

2. NS Power 1-800-428-6230 If any work is being done within 6 meters (approximately 20 feet) of the power line connected to your house, your power lines will have to be wrapped for the safety of the workers and your home. Call NS Power, they'll come out within 10 days to wrap the lines at no cost to you. Once the job is complete, you'll need to call them again to remove the line wrapping.

3. Oil tank If your oil tank doesn't allow enough clearance behind it you'll need to call your oil company to have them drain the tank in order for it to be moved. They may offer the service of moving it temporarily while the work takes place. If they don't, ask them to recommend a service provider.

4. Protect your Garden If you have a garden, bushes, or any items you would like to protect, please do so. We will always be as careful as possible but our work starts from the ground up. Setting up ladders, staging, materials and tools means we may accidentally damage items in close proximity to your home.  â€‹

Q. Do you do work outside of the Halifax area?

A. Yes. We will travel up to a radius of 40 km within the Halifax-Metro area. Arrangements can be made to travel further by request. Additional charges may be incurred for additional travel costs. We aren't always able to accommodate for distance. So it will be a case by case basis.

Q. Does Classic do flat roofing?

A. We do not offer flat roofing at this time. If you are looking to get a flat roof done that requires hot work (torch-on). Be sure to ask your contractor for proof of insurance that covers it.

Q. Do you offer leaf guard for gutters?

A. We absolutely do! Just ask your Estimator to include it as an option when they're writing up your free Eavestrough and Gutter quotes.

Q. Can siding be installed over existing siding?

A. That depends. This approach creates more insulation, adds noise reduction and can keep the siding more stable. However, it does depend on the products being used, product warranties and your discretion as the homeowner.

Q. Do you provide installations year-round?

A. Yes. We do siding installation, roofing, gutter cleaning¹, eavestrough, exterior repairs, windows and doors all year round. Only severe rain, wind, temperatures, ice or unsafe conditions will stop us.

¹Minimum $297.00 plus tax

Q. Can you give quotes over the phone?

A. No, but we can provide you with a free written estimate based on accurate building plans, or preferably, a site visit by one of our Estimators.

Please include as many details in your quote request as possible so we are sure to give you a comprehensive quote. Any work not included in the original estimate will be in addition to what was initially quoted.

Q. Do I qualify for any rebates or grants?

Q. Does Classic offer financing?

A. Yes. We offer financing through RenoPlan via SAWDAC (Siding and Windows Dealers Association of Canada). All loans offered are fully open. Which allows for you to make extra payments when you like!

How it works - Classic will fax your Application (fill out and save document to send to us by email) to SAWDAC. Then SAWDAC will get in contact with you, the client, to obtain any remaining information. After all the relevant information has been collected, SAWDAC will submit your application to Simply Group Financial for review. Once Simply Group Financial has their decision, they'll send their reply to SAWDAC. SAWDAC will send the decision over to Classic. At that point, SAWDAC will also send loan documents over to you for your signature.

From here, either we will submit a certificate of completion via fax to SAWDAC; Or you will be asked DocuSigns through the online portal. Then SAWDAC submits documents to Simply Group Financial for payment to be made to Classic. Simply Group Financial will contact you within 48 hours to confirm job completion and loan details. The funds are then deposited electronically to Classic’s account by SAWDAC.
